Inspiration of AL–Ma’ari’s Vision in Modern Arabic Poetry

Abstract

The research deals with the inspiration of al-Ma’ari in modern Arab poetry. A special focus is put here on the category of poets who were inspired by Al-Ma’ari’s vision, either as a basis in their perception of poetry, or in their perception of themselves. The Arab poet, for instance, is fascinated with the liberty of Al-Ma’ari, and thus he seeks to imitate him. He tries to understand him and examines him, and at the same time, he tries to represent him in his various traps (his attitude towards religion, his attitude to life, his attitude to language, his attitude towards people). Here, awareness plays a dominant role, as the modern Arabic poet loved to recite Al-Ma’ari, trying to simulate him. He may resemble him, intersect, imitate, not imitate, take from him, leave, increase and decrease. Accordingly, he identifies himself with him with an awareness, not a mere imitation.
