Self-Confidence and its Relation to the Gender of a Teacher Among the Intermediate School pupils at Sana'a Municipal

Abstract

This study aims to identify the level of self-confidence among school pupils of some public and private intermediate schools in Sana'a municipal, as well as to identify the differences of self-confidence among the pupils according to the variable of teacher gender (male-female). To achieve these objectives, the researchers developed a self-confidence scale through following the standard procedures. The scale was checked for its validity and reliability, and was administered to a sample of (200) pupils selected from two public schools and two private schools in Sana'a municipal. The public schools had male teachers, whereas the private ones had female teachers. The SPSS program was used to analyze the data. The study findings revealed that pupils of Sana'a municipal had an above-average level of self-confidence. There were statistically significant differences in the level of self-confidence between pupils attributed to the teacher gender in favor of female teachers, where pupils had higher level of self-confidence than their peers. The study concluded with a set of recommendations and suggestions.
