Abstract

The method of abbreviation is one of the methods of eloquent Arabic speech if the meaning is known and defined by the speech, and comes to brief and mitigate the components of the text surface. Before we begin with the abbreviation, which is one of the ways of casting the text, we need to clarify it and its main meaning. I mean that a speaker uses the least phrases to clarify his purpose and perform the targeted meaning when returning to the focus of the text in the first sentence. That is because as a speaker is away from the focus, the text has become of less cohesion, and vice versa. Surely, a speaker in that sense has two options: either to refer to the previous text and try to replace a word by another word that carries the same meaning of a pronoun or a reference name or a related name, or a speaker deletes the word when it is known to the recipient. We will come in this research on the means resorted to by the speaker for a brief, short and light and it is easy for the recipient to follow the speech and understand the meaning, namely: referral and deletion.
