Abstract

This research aims to identify the aspects of convergence and divergence between rhetoric and cognitive and to explain how rhetoric works cognitively and how cognitive works rhetorically. Based on a comparative inductive approach, it was divided into two axes: the first: cognitively and the second: rhetoric and cognitively, starting from the components of each discourse, which are ethos, pathos, and logos, as well as the context. Among the most important results reached is the depth of the interrelation between rhetoric and cognitive, and the multiple levels of integration between them. Moreover, the cognitively approach is a theoretical deepening of what the argumentative rhetoric had accomplished in its study of the components contributing to the formation of discourse. This depth appeared mainly in how the mind processes information, whether in the speaker performing an argumentative process or in the recipient performing a process of assimilation and conviction.
