The Expressive Structure in Surah Maryam: A Stylistic Study of the Quranic Text

Abstract

This study explores the expressive structure in Surah Maryam, offering a stylistic rhetorical analysis of the surah, with an aim to understand how the Quranic text is shaped using rhetorical and grammatical tools to achieve a profound impact on the reader. It also seeks to analyze the relationship between the different parts of the Quranic text and how they interact to achieve rhetorical harmony, enhancing the understanding of deep meanings in the surah. For the study purposes, the stylistic analytical approach was followed.  The study is divided into several sections, covering stylistic theories, the historical and thematic context of the surah, the rhetorical tools used within it, comparing the style of the surah with similar styles in other surahs such as Al-Imran and Al-Anbiya. The key findings of the study revealed that the Quranic style in Surah Maryam is characterized by rhetorical flexibility, combining intellectual and emotional impact, thereby strengthening the Quranic message. Further future research on the Quranic style in other surahs was recommended, focusing on comparing the Quranic style with traditional literary styles to analyze its impact on the contemporary reader.
