Social Workers' Perceptions of Violence Against Persons with Disabilities: A Field Study in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The research explored the perceptions of social workers and practitioners in care and rehabilitation centers for persons with disabilities in Saudi Arabia regarding violence against this group, focusing on its causes, professional and institutional roles in detection and intervention, and strategies for enhancing protection. Using a descriptive analytical approach and an online survey of 174 participants, the study found consensus on the causes of violence, with familial factors ranked highest, followed by societal ones, while institutional and legislative causes were rated lower. Respondents strongly agreed on the importance of professional roles in identifying and addressing violence, as well as institutional and state responsibilities in protection. Significant differences in perceptions of causes were observed among those with longer professional experience and prior exposure to actual cases, though no differences emerged regarding professional and institutional roles. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive protective frameworks that integrate family, community, institutional, and legislative efforts.Downloads
