The Effect of Using the ARCS Motivational Design Model in Teaching Life Skills on Learning Motivation Among Third-Year Secondary School Female Students in the City of Buraydah

Abstract

This research investigated the impact of applying the ARCS motivational design model in teaching the topic of “dealing with life pressures” within the life skills curriculum on third‑year secondary school female students’ motivation in Buraidah. Employing a quasi‑experimental design, 60 students were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). Motivation was measured using the translated and validated Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS), comprising 30 items across four dimensions: attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Independent samples t‑test results revealed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) in post‑test motivation scores favoring the experimental group, with a large effect size (η²=0.326). These findings demonstrate that integrating the ARCS model into teaching “dealing with life pressures” effectively enhances motivation toward learning among female secondary school students.
