Abstract

This research studies the habits and patterns of exposure to foreign films on satellite channels, given that foreign films are part of entertainment programs, and have a place in the program map of satellite channels. The research tends to identify the habits and patterns of university students watching foreign films on satellite channels and to identify the satellite channels in which university students prefer to watch foreign films, the nature of films in terms of origin, and their preferred dramatic types for university students. The research seeks to analyze the content of American films and the ideas that such films carry. The research sample is represented by students from Sana’a University and students from Thamar University who are in bachelor program, for the academic year 2003-2004 AD. It is also limited to American films shown on MBC2 during the months of March and April 2004 AD. The research has disclosed that detective films ranked first in terms of the types of American films shown on the channel, with (12) films, (31%) of the study sample, followed by social films (21%), then horror films by (4) films by (10) %).  The rate of watching foreign films by the study sample is high, with a rate ranging between 92% and 94%.
