The view of the Students of the Faculty of Education in Al-Hodeidah regarding the adequacy of Computer Courses in providing them with basic Computer Skills

Abstract

The study aims at measuring the adequacy of the Introduction to Computer courses (1, 2) being taught to the students of Al-Hodeidah University in Yemen, and from the point of view of the students of the Faculty of Education. The study sample was (171) male and female students, and the study tool was (the questionnaire) which consisted of 85 skills. It was applied in the university year 2006-2007 AD. The study has disclosed the weakness of the courses in providing students with basic computer skills, and the number of acquired skills was 51, of which 38 were acquired with a score out of 85 skills, and at the level of fields. The percentage of acquiring system and operational skills was 40%, and the percentage of acquiring word processing skills was 37%, and the percentage of acquisition of communication and Internet skills 27%. There were also non-statistically significant differences between the students' estimates of the adequacy of the course in favor of the male and natural sciences departments.
