The political situation and its impact on the values of tolerance in the Republic of Yemen in the period from 1990-2010 AD Sociological vision - analysis – comparison

Abstract

The declaration of the Yemeni unification was in 1990 between the two parts of Yemen (formerly). The constitution of the unified country consisted of the right of coexistence in the light of diversity (political - cultural - social ... etc); thus, many parties, NGOs, unions and different associations emerged and were active. Therefore, this study seeks to explain the mechanism of coexistence among the different parties as well as aims to identify the political situation and its impact on the values of tolerance in the Republic of Yemen during the period 1990 -2010, including some other sub-objectives. The study finds answers for its inquiries, some of which are: what is the impact of the social and political development on the values of tolerance during the period 1990 – 2010? What are the social denotations of tolerance? The study uses the (analytical - comparative) approach for their importance in this study. The study concludes some results, some of which are: The period of tolerance in the Republic of Yemen was represented in the year of 1990 (according to the constitution of the country of unity). After two decades since the declaration of tolerance was ratified in the constitution of the Republic of Yemen, and  the agreement with the international agreements and conventions on human rights signed by the Presidency of the Republic of Yemen, there have been no cultural developments in terms of coexistence with the other. After two decades of unity, the situation is still similar than that one in the past. During the period of tolerance, there has been a tactical political culture of hatred and rejection of others. The study consists on some recommendations, some of which are: the Ministry of Endowment should open or close the closed doors of ,  and the Ministry of Information should raise the awareness regarding the culture of tolerance.
