Sadness in the Poetry of Ahmad Al-Laheeb: A Thematic Study

Abstract

This study focuses on exploring the theme of sadness in the poetry of Ahmad Al-Laheeb, examining its occurrences, meanings, and causes. The research adopts a thematic approach that traces major and minor themes in the literary work, studying their locations and patterns. The research plan consists of an introduction, a preface, two main sections, and a conclusion. The first section focuses on the language of sadness, its recurring words, and their meanings, while the second section addresses the causes of sadness in the poet’s works. The research concludes with key findings: the theme of sadness is recurrent in Al-Laheeb’s poetry, clearly emerging through four semantic fields—physical, linguistic, moral, and sensory. The study reveals both internal and external reasons for the poet’s sadness, showing that sadness dominated his life and became a central element in his poetry.
