Abstract

The study examines the mosque of Imam Hussein bin Jaafar al Maraghi in al Zawaqir village, Taiz, Yemen, focusing on its location, historical background, architectural features, annexes, and construction stages through descriptive and comparative analytical methods in historical and archaeological research. Its objectives include clarifying the figure to whom the mosque is attributed and analyzing its architectural elements, while addressing the problem of uncertainty surrounding its construction date due to the absence of references in historical sources and the lack of inscriptions, apart from late writings on the wooden structure dating to the 12th AH/18th AD century. The research is organized into four sections covering the mosque’s location and biography of its founder, architectural description, annexes, and comparative analysis. Findings establish Imam al Maraghi’s death between 398–400 AH (1008–1010 AD) and trace the mosque’s phases of construction, expansion, and renovation, thereby contributing to a clearer understanding of its historical and architectural development.
