Abstract

The study investigated the prevalence of self esteem cognitive distortions among orphaned adolescents and explored differences across gender, residence, and orphan status, using a descriptive analytical approach with a sample of 198 participants. A specialized scale was developed to measure these distortions, and results showed they were generally high, with significant differences favoring males, those living in shelter centers or tents, and adolescents who had lost both parents or their mother. Based on these findings, the study recommended implementing guidance programs to help orphans challenge distorted thinking and build positive cognitive frameworks, strengthen self assertion, and improve quality of life. It further emphasized the need for specialized female counselors to support adolescents coping with parental loss, alongside improving the physical and psychological environment of shelters and organizing recreational and sports activities to foster a supportive atmosphere.
