Abstract

The Post-graduation Education has taken a considerable attention, particularly after the Yemeni-Reunion in 1990.This attention has been represented in establishing six governmental universities, one of them is Thamar University, beside the universities of Sana'a and Aden which were established in the decade of the seventies. The reflected result was the expansion of their cities. The Universities are one of the most influential phenomena on their surroundings and cities as part of their urbanistic expansion. The present study aims at investigating such urbanistic expansion, its size and kind from the time of the university establishment upto today. It also aims at exploring other factors that formulate the general features of the urbanistic structure and had its impact on the size of the public services and their kinds. Perhaps, one of the prominent factors was the internal and external immigration to the cities which caused social and economic changes. The importance of the study lies in being one of the first which sheds light on the impact of the university on its urbanistic surrounding with an aim of exploring the nature of the urbanistic expansion and the type of the planned practices and, ultimately, the control of the urbanistic development of the city. It also explores the influence of the university on its urbanistic surrounding in general and Dhamar city in particular. It presents suggestions for the future of the city and its university which may enhance the constant urbanistic growth projects urbanistically and humanistically.
