Abstract

The research aims to explore the effect of using the environmental approach on achievement and the development of the attitude towards the environment and the study of geography among secondary school students. The use of the environmental entrance experiment and the traditional method was limited to the unit of some contemporary global problems included in the Geography course in the second year of secondary school. The study was limited to experimenting with the use of the environmental approach in teaching the selected unit topics compared to the usual teaching method (i.e. the traditional method). The research relies on a random sample of secondary school students at Thamar schools, for the academic year 2008/2009. The research has adopted the experimental approach, and concluded that the computed (T) value is greater than the tabular (T) value, to show there are statistically significant differences on the dimension scale of the attitude towards the environment and the subject of geography in favor of the experimental group. The research also proves the existence of a positive correlation between achievement in geography using the environmental approach, and the formation of positive attitudes towards the environment and the study of geography.
