Electric Power and its developmental impacts in Dhamar Governorate: A Geographical Study

The study aimed to highlight and analyze the current state of electric power and its developmental impacts in Dhamar Governorate, in light of the long-life shortage of electricity supply due to economic and political challenges, and to explore possible solutions. The study aimed to analyze the current state of electric power and reveal its economic, social, and environmental dimensions in the study area. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to achieve its objectives. The study included: An introduction, importance and objectives of the study, historical development of electric power in the region, and its developmental impacts. The study revealed several findings, the most important of which are: The study area suffers from a significant weakness in the electrical infrastructure, and the electricity sector suffers from a coverage deficit, with the actual supply level not exceeding (52%) of the total population of the study area. The high rate of loss and irregular service have negatively affected the agriculture, industry, and services sectors, and deepened the developmental gap between rural and urban areas. This calls for the need to adopt an integrated strategy based on doing maintenance for networks, promoting renewable energy investments, and expanding partnerships between the public and private sectors, to ensure sustainable development and enhance energy security in the governorate.
