Views of the heads of Academic Departments at Thamar University towards their Administrative and Academic Tasks

Abstract

The study aims to identify the opinions of the heads of academic departments, Thamar University, towards their tasks, and to determine the extent to which there are differences in those opinions. That can be attributed to the influence of two variables: years of experience heading the department, and type/specialization of the faculty. The researcher has designed a questionnaire of (96) tasks distributed over eight basic domains. The questionnaire was applied to a sample of (31) department heads, who constituted (83%) of the study population. The research concluded that (87) of the (96) sub-administrative tasks (91%) were realized by the heads of academic departments to be important in achieving the goals of their departments. Among them (13) tasks related to communications and the development of mutual relations, and (12) tasks related to (12) tasks related to planning, (12) tasks related to leadership and guidance, (11) tasks related to follow-up and evaluation, (10) tasks related to curricula and teaching, similar to (10) tasks related to scientific research and community service, and (7) tasks related to training and professional development. There was only (9) of the sub-administrative tasks (9%) were not realized by the heads of departments that they are important in achieving the objectives of their departments.
