أسباب عزوف الطلبة عن الالتحاق بالتخصصات العلمية في كليات التربية بالجامعات اليمنية

This study aimed at finding out the reasons for the reluctance to enroll in the scientific disciplines (mathematics, physics, chemistry, and life sciences) in the colleges of education at Yemeni universities. To achieve the aim of the study, data were collected from students in the scientific disciplines from the academic years 2016/2017 to 2021/2022 in the colleges of education affiliated to eight universities, namely: (Sana’a, Dhamar, Hodeidah, Ibb, Amran, Hajjah, Al-Mahweet, and Sa'ada). Data were collected through the electronic portal of Yemeni universities, Information Technology Center in Higher Education. Data regarding the reasons for reluctance were collected from the study group that consisted of (443) individuals, through a questionnaire that contained (47) items distributed over four fields. The results showed a decrease in the number of students applying for these disciplines in the year 2021/2022 by (88%) compared to the year 2016/2017, and the results also showed that the most important reasons for students’ reluctance to join these disciplines were: economic reasons with a huge impact, followed by reasons related to awareness of the importance of scientific disciplines with a very large impact size, then reasons related to the nature of the scientific disciplines with a medium impact size. It was also noted that there were no differences between the averages of the estimates of the members of the study group for the reasons of reluctance is attributed to the two variables (level and qualification).
