Abstract

The terminology of Sibaweh's book has been characterized with confusion and inconstancy, and with obscurity and multiplicity of the words denoting one concept or more. Hence, this research paper attempts to reveal the extent of constancy of grammatical terminology in the book, and the extent of correctness of what has been predominant about its terminology. Nevertheless, the research methodology is analytical inductive, based on investigating and inducting the words that Sibaweh has used for the predicate, and then analyzing and interpreting them through what Sibaweh himself has written, not through what has been written about him, drawing sometimes upon some views of modern/ later grammarians in the positions that require that. This research has concluded that Sibaweh has used the term (predicate) on its concept with complete awareness, and that what seems to be multiplicity in its word or concept, has been only attributed to the research field in which Sibaweh has been studying a sentence. Thus, Sibaweh has used the word (predicate) in the semantic field of the sentence, and the word (indeclinable upon inchoative, or indeclinable upon it) in the structural field of the sentence, whereas the term/ word is a term of a specific type of predicate types, and one of its divisions, that has been known later as the semi-sentence predicate, and that is not considered a contradictory term for predicate.
