Abstract

This study examines the complex challenges of Arabizing scientific terminology by comparing the interpretive nature of the humanities with the experimental orientation of applied sciences. Using a comparative analytical method, the research highlights how Arabization serves as a foundational mechanism for enabling Arabic to participate effectively in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. The study demonstrates that the humanities face predominantly semantic challenges stemming from interpretive variation, whereas the applied sciences struggle with terminological issues caused by the rapid proliferation of new technical and medical terms. Weak institutional coordination further intensifies these difficulties. The analysis underscores that Arabization is not a purely linguistic endeavor but a strategic cultural and civilizational project aimed at empowering Arabic in domains of science, education, and research. The study proposes several solutions, including the establishment of a unified Arab council for scientific terminology, the development of continuously updated interactive digital lexicons, and the creation of specialized training programs for scientific translators that integrate linguistic proficiency with subject-matter expertise. It also recommends adopting an integrative approach that combines phonetic Arabization with descriptive translation, while drawing inspiration from the Arabic scientific legacy to revitalize confidence in Arabic terminology.
