The Argumentative Function of Figurative Imagery in Prophetic Hadith: Models from Hadiths of Edification and Morality

This study explores the argumentative function of rhetorical imagery in selected Prophetic hadiths on moral refinement and ethics. Focusing on simile, metaphor, and metonymy as persuasive devices, it employs a pragmatic methodology grounded in rhetorical‑argumentative analysis within communicative frameworks. Organized into an introduction, two analytical sections—first on simile, then on metaphor and metonymy—and a conclusion, the research reveals how figurative imagery in the Prophetic tradition blends aesthetic appeal with persuasive force. By presenting meaning claims supported by evidence drawn from the audience’s own cognitive resources, these devices guide listeners toward conviction and acceptance of the conveyed moral messages. The findings demonstrate that such imagery effectively balances enjoyment and persuasion, reinforcing the communicative power of hadith literature.
