Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Wareeth: The Pioneer of the Enlightenment Movement in Contemporary Yemen (1912-1940)

Abstract

This research is a study of the Yemeni thinker Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Wareeth; his birth, growth and culture. It also deals with his intellectual horizons and the nature of his reformist project in the cultural and historical contexts, with its prominent features that echo that of (Yemeni Reform School: Ibn Alwazeer, al-Ameer, Al-Jalal, Al-Muqbili and Al-Shawkani) which is considered, if not preceded, an ideological and thought extension of the (Islamic reform: Afghani, Abdu and Reza). It has been divided into five axes along with the introduction and conclusion as follows: The first axis discusses his birth and growth, and the second axis discusses “Al-Wareeth as the secretion of Al-Shamsiyah of Dhamar (Zaidi chair). The third axis shows his interest in innovative thought (the same Islamic university while preserving the heritage of the Yemenite Mu’tazilah). The fourth axis deals with his move to Sana'a and presenting his reformist thoughts in Al-hikma Editions. Finally, the fifth axis discusses some features of his reformist and enlightened doctrine.
