The Efforts of Sheikh Bakr Abu Zayd in Confronting Destructive Thoughts: The Call for the Unity of Religions as a Model

Abstract

This research aims to highlight the efforts of Sheikh Bakr bin Abdullah Abu Zayd, may Allah have mercy on him, in his dealing with the claim of the "unity of religions", following the inductive and analytical approaches. The research consisted of three sections and a conclusion, the first of which was devoted to introducing the life of Sheikh Bakr Abu Zayd, with a mention of his most prominent works. The second section dealt with Sheikh Bakr Abu Zayd's conception of the notion of the unity of religions, his sources, and his mention of contemporary images and slogans for this claim. The last section touched upon the general aspects of Bakr Abu Zayd’s approach in confronting the notion of the unity of religions. The most obvious finding to emerge from this research reveals Sheikh Bakr Abu Zayd's efforts in confronting such notions, and his clarification of the contradiction in the notion of the "unity of religions".
