Abstract

The study aimed to identify the relationship between emotional regulation and post-traumatic stress disorder among a sample of university students. The researcher used the descriptive, correlational approach as the appropriate approach for this study, as the study population consisted of all students at King Saud University in Riyadh, who were registered and regular in the bachelor’s degree in the third semester of the academic year 2023, the study sample comprised (400) students aged between (18-24) years, with an average age of (20.5) years. The researcher used the ERQ scale for emotional regulation prepared by Gross & John (2003), and the PCL-5 scale to assess the severity of symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder prepared by Weathers et al.  2013. The study found an inverse relationship between emotional regulation and post-traumatic stress disorder, where emotional regulation contributes to reducing the symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
