Isolation and Identification of dermatophytes causing dermatophytosis in cattle at Thamar governorate, Yemen

الملخص

This study was conducted in three Cattle farms of government and private sector, namely, Rosabah, Military Economic Corporation (MEC) and Nihmy farms at Dhamar with aim to isolate and identify the fungi causing skin diseases in Cattle Calves. A total of 54 skin scrapings were collected in sterile containers from head, chest, and limbs of calves clinically suspected to have dermatophytosis. All samples were labeled properly and brought to laboratory for examination and processing according standard techniques. The results revealed that 139 fungal isolates including dermatophytes and non-dermatophytes were obtained from all farm animals included in this study. 77, 37, and 25 isolates from Rosaba, MEC and Nihmy farms respectively. Trichophyton verrucosum Fungus was isolated and identified in 11 (8%) isolates; where as, non dermatophytes were isolated from 128 (92%) isolates. The prevalence of T. verrucosum in calves at different farms was as 64%, 22% and 9% in Rosabah, MEC, Nihmy farms respectively.
