The Structure of the Setting in Dhafer Al-Jubairi’s Collection of Short Stories Rajfat Al-Anaween (The Shiver of Titles)

Abstract

The research sheds light on the structure of the setting in Dhafer Al-Jubairi’s collection of short stories Rajfat Al-Anaween (The Shiver of Titles) which consists of thirty-five short story texts. It aims to identify the structure of the setting in these texts through three axes. The first axis is time (employment and the problem of significance). The second axis: the space of place and the symbolism of employment. The third axis is the role of time and place in employing the feminist personality. The research relied on the structural approach because most of the models of the studied group included sub-headings whose subject matter was derived from time and place. The consistency of the spatio-temporal environment with the type of topic on which the story is based had a clear impact on the choice of the method and style of presentation. The research revealed the consistency of the artistic structure between time, place, characters and their interconnectedness, and the emergence of time and place as two heroes of the story collection. The narrator provided the opportunity for the characters to participate in choosing places that highlight the dialectic of the event taking place in them. The study monitored the poet’s reliance on symbolism and the elements of suspense and paradoxes.
