Impact of Entrepreneurship Translation Training on Cultural Adaptation Fidelity and Business Localization Effectiveness in Saudi Startup Investor Materials
Under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, Monsha'at assists over 1,000 emerging tech startups annually in securing cross-border venture capital (VC). Attracting foreign investment requires adapting key investor collateral, including pitch decks, financial models, and accelerator applications. However, generalist translators often rely on formal equivalence, causing cultural flattening of indigenous business concepts like wasatiya, taqwa, ijtihad, and musharaka. These distortions introduce friction during due diligence and undermine institutional investor trust. To date, no controlled empirical research in the GCC region has evaluated specialized entrepreneurship translation pedagogy. This study evaluates the impact of targeted entrepreneurship translation training on cultural adaptation fidelity and business localization effectiveness. A controlled quasi-experimental post-test design was conducted with 50 professional translators in Riyadh, divided into trained (n = 25) and untrained (n = 25) cohorts. Participants translated an authentic 30-page investment portfolio evaluated blindly by three VC managing partners and two Monsha'at officers using a validated 100-point rubric. Independent-samples t-tests indicated that trained translators scored significantly higher in cultural fidelity (88.40% vs. 52.10%, p < 0.001 and investor resonance (85.20% vs. 61.40%, p < 0.001. Performance gains were largest in narrative pitch decks and contextualized financial models. These findings offer evidence-based guidelines for modernizing university translation curricula to support national economic diversification.
