The Impact of Modern Social Transformations on the Patterns and Concepts of Leisure among Saudi Youth, and the Role of Social Work in Social and Psychological Adjustment

The study investigated how modern social transformations influence Saudi youth’s leisure patterns and concepts, while examining the role of social work in supporting their psychological and social adaptation. Using a purposive sample of 391 social work practitioners, the findings highlighted strong awareness among social workers of the impact of these transformations on youth behavior, particularly in recreational activities. Results showed that young people increasingly embrace diverse, modern forms of leisure, with varying perceptions of how digital versus direct social activities affect adjustment. However, challenges emerged, including weak adherence to social responsibilities, difficulties in career guidance, and lack of supervision over certain activities. The study emphasized broad consensus on the importance of social work in providing guidance and support, recommending awareness programs for youth and families to promote safe and balanced recreational practices.Downloads
