This study investigated the motivations driving older adults in Saudi Arabia to use digital applications, the types of applications most frequently accessed, the challenges encountered, and the impact of these factors on their quality of life, alongside the role of social services in digital empowerment and differences by gender and lifestyle. Based on a descriptive-analytical approach and a purposive sample of 389 participants, results showed high motivation levels, particularly governmental and social motives, and high application usage, with government and health apps being most popular. Challenges were significant, especially process complexity and difficulty learning new software. Digital transformation was found to positively influence quality of life, notably in independence and health dimensions, while social service support was deemed essential, with strong demand for training workshops and technical assistance. Statistical analysis revealed no overall gender differences, though sub-dimensions varied, and significant differences favored older adults living alone in challenges and quality of life. The study recommended simplifying application interfaces for elderly users and establishing a national digital empowerment program through social service centers to provide training and support.Downloads
