Factors Associated with Domestic Violence Against Wives: Perspectives of Beneficiaries and Staff at Social Protection Centers in the Northern Borders Region

The research investigated factors linked to domestic violence against wives in the northern border region by comparing the perspectives of abused women and female staff in social protection centers. Using a descriptive survey and questionnaires administered to 98 participants (78 wives and 20 workers), the study found consensus between both groups on the strong association of violence with psychological and behavioral factors, which ranked highest. Differences emerged in subsequent rankings: wives emphasized economic factors followed by family and social dimensions, while workers highlighted cultural and religious factors before economic ones. In both groups, the legal dimension was considered least influential. These findings underscore the multifaceted nature of domestic violence and the varying perceptions of its underlying causes across affected women and professionals engaged in protection services.Downloads
