Abstract

This study examines the aesthetics of reception in the political discourse of Hassan II, focusing on the dynamic relationship between discourse production and audience response. Grounded in Reception Aesthetics Theory, the research analyzes how his speeches interacted with shifting political contexts and how major national events shaped the audience’s horizon of expectations. The study explores the reception of his discourse across different segments of Moroccan society, emphasizing the role of cultural and social environments in shaping interpretive responses. It also investigates the aesthetic dimension of his rhetoric and its contribution to legitimizing political authority and fostering public acceptance. By integrating Reception Aesthetics with textual analysis, the research identifies the persuasive mechanisms and linguistic strategies that endowed his speeches with historical gravitas and symbolic authority. The findings reveal that rhetorical devices in Hassan II’s political discourse functioned as strategic instruments for directing public convictions and managing collective awareness. The study concludes that political discourse is inherently dynamic, evolving with generational change and ongoing reinterpretation, and that its aesthetic dimension plays a decisive role in sustaining its persuasive power and historical resonance.
