Alliteration in Yemeni Poetry in the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Centuries AH

Abstract

This research seeks to provide an analytical appraisal of alliteration in Yemeni poetry during the seventh, eighth and ninth centuries AH in which Yemeni poetry reached the zenith of its strength and prosperity particularly in the medieval Islamic era. The research consists of an introduction, discussion and conclusion summarizing the research findings. This research has found that the Yemeni poets paid a considerable attention to the pattern of alliteration, and one of its important manifestations appeared in using it in constructing their poetic and rhythmic creativity; consequently, alliteration in its various types appeared as a figurative pattern exploited by poets to decorate their poems, generate rhythm and enrich meaning.
