Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the role of social media in the professional development of male and female mathematics teachers across general education stages in Tabuk City. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed using both survey and analytical methods. A questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument after its validity and reliability had been established. It was administered to a simple random sample of 91 mathematics teachers, representing 11.23% of the study population. The findings indicated that WhatsApp was the most frequently used social media platform for professional development among mathematics teachers, followed by Telegram and educational video platforms such as YouTube. The level of social media use for self-directed professional development was moderate, with a mean score of 2.47, while its use for collaborative professional development was also moderate, with a mean score of 2.77. The findings further showed that barriers to using social media for professional development were moderate, with a mean score of 3.25. In light of these findings, the study recommended developing digital professional development programs for mathematics teachers, enhancing training on the effective use of social media in education, and supporting the development of digital professional learning communities that facilitate knowledge sharing and improve teaching practices.
