Opportunities and Challenges Facing Nonprofit Sector in Collaboration with Saudi Universities in Riyadh city

The study aimed to identify the opportunities and challenges facing the nonprofit sector in cooperating with public universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The descriptive method was employed. The study sample consisted of (9) leaders of donor institutions working in the fields of education and development at job rank thirteen and above in the city of Riyadh. A questionnaire with three open-ended questions was used as the study instrument. The results showed there are opportunities for universities to provide qualification and training, linking academic programs with societal needs to enhance nonprofit sector ability to develop qualified personnel. Findings also indicated that centralized bureaucracy and university regulations were among the challenges facing the nonprofit sector in cooperating with universities. Further, weak understanding and appreciation the nonprofit sector role limit partnerships sustainability, while the lack of qualified and specialized competencies reduces the effectiveness of joint programs. The study underscores the need for establishing a clear coordinating structure to facilitate communication and enhance sustainability. It also recommends reducing bureaucracy, motivating faculty members, and organizing conferences and specialized academic programs to bridge the knowledge gap between universities and nonprofit organizations.References
