Challenges Facing Community Colleges in the Presence of Technical Colleges and the Role of the University in Facing it: (Community College in Al-Aflaj as a model)

Abstract

Dr. Lafay bin Lafi Al-Salami Prof. Mahmoud Mohamed Saleh Abstract: This study aims to identify the most important challenges facing the Community College in Al-Aflaj governorate in the light of the presence of the Technical College from the point of view of a sample of male and female students from the community and technical colleges in the governorate and to explain the role of the university in facing these challenges. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire consisting of (20) questions distributed on four axes have been designed. The study sample consisted of (50) male and female students of different academic levels from the colleges of technology and community in Al-Aflaj, were randomly chosen, and the study tool was applied in the first semester of the academic year 1439/1440 AH. The results have showed that the sample members have a high knowledge of the challenges facing the Community College in the light of the existence of similar programs at the College of Technology in the same governorate. They also expressed their opinion about the duration of the study at the Community College and that it is appropriate, and made some observations on the difficulty of the college admission procedures and those they must take into account the student’s high school rates. The results also indicated that the curricula are understandable and at the level of the average student, but they made observations on the lack of availability of textbooks at reasonable prices. Employment also is not available sufficiently to graduates in the government sector. The study also recommended reviewing existing programs and replacing them with programs that meet the needs of the labor market. The members of the sample also suggested that the reward is very important in relation to it and is the main motivation for students enrolling in the Technical College instead of joining the corresponding community college programs.
