Training Competencies Investment Sustainability among Graduate Students in Saudi Universities in Alignment with the Pillars of Vision 2030

This study aimed to develop a theoretical framework and propose mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of investing in the training competencies of graduate students in Saudi universities, in accordance with the pillars and objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly the Human Capability Development Program. A descriptive-analytical method was employed for analyzing the theoretical and conceptual foundations of competencies, sustainability, and human capital investment, and reviewing relevant local and international studies. Key findings highlighted the need to shift from traditional training to programs that foster dual competencies (technical and digital) and secure a direct linkage between training outcomes and employability in the future labor market. Based on this analysis, the study recommends adopting operational mechanisms grounded in three core axes: enhancing training content and environments (with emphasis on project-based training), building strategic (international and industrial) partnerships, and activating governance and sustainable funding mechanisms (such as aligning incentives and training records with performance management and employment pathways). These measures aim to ensure that universities’ investment in graduate students becomes a sustainable driver of national leadership and competitive advantage.
