Effectiveness of a Program Based on the Lovaas Model in Developing Selected Behavioral Skills among Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Thamar City

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a therapeutic training program based on Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) using the Lovaas model to develop behavioural skills among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Thamar City. A descriptive approach was used for an initial survey of 25 children across four rehabilitation centres, followed by a quasi-experimental, single-group pre-test/post-test/follow-up design. Utilizing a modified version of the Behavioural Skills Scale (Arafa, 2020), nine target skills were identified to design a 192-session program. Thirty-eight sessions were implemented over seven weeks with two cases of varying ASD severity, focusing primarily on attending and imitation skills. Results revealed significant post-test improvements compared to the pre-test for both cases, with attending and imitation scores increasing markedly.
