Journal Overview
The Thamar University Journal of Natural & Applied Sciences (TUJNAS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published by Thamar University. The journal provides an academic platform for the publication of original research and scholarly contributions in the natural and applied sciences, with particular emphasis on scientifically rigorous studies that address both global research questions and regionally relevant challenges.
TUJNAS publishes full-length research articles, review articles, short communications, systematic reviews, editorials, perspectives, letters to the editor, commentaries and supplements, conference proceedings, and case studies. The journal adopts a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, welcoming submissions from pure and applied sciences (physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc.), agriculture, engineering, computer science and information technology, medicine and health sciences, environmental science, pharmacology, veterinary medicine, and dentistry.
Editorial Quality and Peer Review
TUJNAS applies a double-blind peer review process in accordance with international scholarly publishing standards. Each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess scope, originality, and ethical compliance, followed by evaluation by at least two independent expert reviewers. Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
The peer review process is publicly documented on the journal website, ensuring transparency and accountability. Reviewers and editors are required to disclose conflicts of interest, and all submissions are subject to plagiarism screening prior to acceptance.
Editorial Governance
The journal is managed by an Editor-in-Chief and an editorial team supported by an international editorial board composed of active researchers from multiple institutions and geographic regions. Editorial board members are selected based on scholarly productivity, subject-area expertise, and editorial experience. TUJNAS is actively strengthening international representation on its editorial board to ensure editorial independence and global relevance.
Open Access, Copyright, and Licensing
TUJNAS provides immediate open access to all published content without embargo. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), allowing unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided appropriate attribution is given. Authors retain copyright of their work.
Article-level metadata and full texts are openly accessible and harvested through standard scholarly protocols. Each published article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via Crossref, ensuring persistent identification and discoverability.
Publication Ethics and Transparency
TUJNAS adheres to the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The journal maintains clear policies on authorship, conflicts of interest, plagiarism, corrections, retractions, and appeals. These policies are publicly available and consistently applied to all submissions.
The journal collects personal data solely for editorial and publishing purposes and processes such data in accordance with international data-protection principles. No commercial sponsorship or advertising influences editorial decisions, ensuring full editorial independence.
Publication History and Sustainability
TUJNAS was established in 2009 and published in print format until 2017. Following a temporary suspension, the journal was relaunched in 2023 as an online-only, English-language publication. Since relaunch, TUJNAS has implemented a structured editorial workflow, a defined publication schedule (June and December), and a continuous online publication model whereby accepted articles are published immediately upon completion of the production process.
The journal’s operational sustainability is supported by transparent article processing charges, with waiver mechanisms in place. Financial considerations do not influence editorial decisions.
Digital Archiving and Preservation
To ensure long-term preservation of the scholarly record, TUJNAS participates in recognized digital archiving systems, including the PKP Preservation Network (LOCKSS). This distributed preservation infrastructure guarantees continued access to journal content in the event of service interruption or journal discontinuation. Authors are also encouraged to deposit their work in institutional and subject repositories.
